Condair steam humidifiers are designed specifically for efficient humidification of indoor spaces as well as ease of maintenance. Their patented cylinders are a prime example of this. Condair cylinders are crucial to the functionality of the humidifier – they put the steam in steam humidifiers!
How Condair Cylinders Work
All cylinders contain electrodes which heat water and generate steam. As it runs, the humidifier automatically adjusts the water level within the cylinder to maintain the optimal steam output. As the water is boiled, minerals are left behind, which are then automatically drained during operation and collected in a separate tank. Condair utilizes an auto-adaptive control system to help manage the scale buildup within cylinders, guaranteeing 100% output until the end of the cylinder’s life. Once this is reached, the cylinder needs replaced. Condair has designed this process to be quick and simple. Replacing the cylinder only takes a few moments and does not require any tools or humidifier disassembly and reassembly. Cylinders are built to be consumable products, reducing the amount of time it takes to maintain them. Eventually, there will be enough mineral buildup that the electrodes will cease firing and the humidifier will enter a fault state, failing to produce any humidification at all.
How to Identify the Condair Cylinder You Need
Condair humidifiers require exact Condair cylinders. Using counterfeit cylinders will void the humidifier warranty, UL listing, manufacturer liability, and can cause system malfunction. It’s important you get the right cylinder to match your humidifier. All Condair cylinders are labeled with a 3-digit product code, so all you have to do is locate this number on the cylinder itself and you have your part number. If you are having any issues identifying the cylinder product code, you should contact Condair or a local rep to match your humidifier model number to the cylinder you need.
Condair’s labeling of cylinders with a 3-digit product code is intended to make it quick and easy to identify exactly what you need. All cylinders will have this 3-digit code, but they do also have other part numbers. For example, one of the most popular cylinders has a product code of 202 and a part number of 1519002. Searching for either of these will get you the right cylinder, but as the product code is shorter and easier to identify and remember, it’s what is listed on the cylinder itself and is the preferred designation of industry experts.
Condair Cylinder Maintenance
Condair cylinders should be replaced every 4-6 months. Facilities that have hard water will find that cylinders experience mineral buildup faster, so they may require more frequent replacement. High-use facilities will also need to replace their cylinders more often. The humidifier system will alert you to the cylinder’s required replacement three days before it stops working. Condair cylinders are made of inert plastic, and because used cylinders only contain water-borne minerals, their disposal problems are minimal. It is not advised that you perform any descaling on the cylinder and attempt to reuse it. Cylinders are not designed for this usage, and harsh chemicals can damage the electrodes on the cylinder or other components of the humidifier. Once an electrode dies, no amount of cleaning will bring it back, and replacement is the only option.
Peak humidification season is fall and winter, so it is prudent that service managers inspect cylinders in all humidifiers before the cold months hit to ensure humidification efficiency when it’s most vital. It’s also advised that service managers perform other maintenance tasks on humidifiers anytime they replace the cylinder. This includes inspecting and cleaning the drain valve, fill valve, and fill cup, and inspecting any steam and condensate hoses for cracks.
