Humidistats

Humidistats monitor and regulate the humidity levels in HVAC systems. These humidity controllers are used in humidifiers, dehumidifiers, rooftop units, and air handlers. Humidistats are important in many types of buildings including large facilities and critical environments such as healthcare facilities, labs, schools and data centers. They are important not only for occupant comfort but also for health....Read more

Humidity sensors measure humidity in the air and signal the HVAC equipment to adjust humidity levels when needed. They can be digital, wall-mounted, or duct-mounted. Humidistats are installed near the return air duct or in a location that allows it to detect ambient humidity. Installing them in direct sunlight, near windows or vents should be avoided because it can result in false readings.

When humidistats fail, it can lead to excessive moisture which can result in mold, odors and equipment strain. Fluctuation in humidity levels, system running continuously, short cycling, or manually changing the humidity setpoint with no response can all be signs of a malfunctioning humidity sensor. Rust and cracked housings can indicate a failing humidity controller. Many commercial HVAC systems display alerts when a humidistat is faulty. Preventative maintenance can help identify these issues before they become bigger issues.
